Denver, CO · Built-in refrigeration
The built-in stopped holding temperature. We find out why before we quote.
Independent Sub-Zero service across Denver — refrigerator and freezer columns, ice makers and wine storage. Panels come off, readings get taken, and you hear one figure for the repair before anyone reaches for a part.

Sealed-system diagnosis on a built-in. Most calls never get this far — the fault is usually a fan, a heater or a sensor.
Questions
Asked before booking
Straight answers on money, timing and what actually gets replaced. Anything not here, ask on the phone — (720) 903-2603.
What does it cost to get someone out?
A flat $89 service call covers the drive, the visit and the full diagnosis — including gauges on the sealed system when the fault points that way. If you go ahead with the repair, that $89 comes off the total. Parts and labour are quoted as one figure before anything is fitted.
How soon can a technician get here?
The line is answered around the clock and visits run 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days. A call placed in the morning usually gets an afternoon window; a call placed late in the day gets the following morning. You are told the window before you hang up, not after.
Do you work on integrated and panel-ready columns?
Yes — that is most of the work in Denver. Integrated columns roll forward on their own rails once the toe panel and the anti-tip bracket are released, so the cabinetry does not have to be cut. If a unit is trapped by a countertop overhang or a stone waterfall, we say so before touching it rather than forcing it.
The fresh food side is warm but the freezer is still frozen. What is that?
On a dual-refrigeration unit the two sections have their own evaporators and fans, so one can fail while the other carries on. Nine times out of ten it is the fresh-food evaporator fan, a defrost fault icing that coil, or a damper stuck shut — not the compressor, and not a reason to replace the unit.
Is a twenty-year-old built-in worth repairing?
Usually, yes. A Sub-Zero cabinet, door and liner outlast the parts bolted to them, and fans, heaters, sensors, valves and control boards are all replaceable. The honest exception is a compressor that has failed on a unit with other tired components; in that case we tell you what it would take and let you decide.
What if I decide not to go ahead with the repair?
Then you pay the $89 for the visit and the diagnosis and nothing else. You get the fault in writing along with the part it needs, which is yours to use however you like — including for a second opinion.
What it costs
One flat visit fee, then a figure you approve
Nothing is fitted before you have heard the price of fixing it. The service call is the only amount that can be fixed honestly before anyone has opened the machine compartment; each repair page carries the typical range for that kind of fault, and the figure for your unit is agreed with you first.
| Item | Amount | What it covers | When it applies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Service call | flat $89 | The drive, the visit and a full diagnosis: temperatures logged, panels off, electrical readings taken and gauges on the sealed system where the symptom calls for it. | Once per visit. Credited in full against the repair when you approve it. |
| Parts | quoted first | Sub-Zero components — evaporator and condenser fans, defrost heaters and sensors, thermistors, dampers, water valves, ice modules, gaskets, control boards. | Priced and shown to you before anything is ordered or fitted. |
| Labour | quoted first | The work itself, from a fan swap on the floor of a pantry to recovering, brazing and recharging a sealed system. | Quoted with the part as a single figure for the repair, agreed before work starts. |
What moves the number
- Which section failed — a fresh-food fan is an hour, a sealed-system leak is a day with recovery and a vacuum on it.
- Whether the fault is electrical, mechanical or in the refrigerant circuit. The first two are a part and an hour; the third means recovering, brazing and recharging, and that is a longer visit.
- Part availability for the model. Current-series components are usually stocked locally; some older 500-series and early integrated parts have to come in on order.
- Access. A column boxed into a butler pantry or an old chimney alcove has to come out and go back, and that is time.
- Whether it can be finished in one visit. If a part has to come in, the second visit is not another service call.

Our loft sits over a brick alley and the built-in had crept up to fifty overnight. The condenser turned out to be packed with construction dust from the unit next door. He cleaned it, tested on gauges, and it holds forty again.
Brady K.LoDo
Ice stopped altogether in the middle of a heat wave and the bin smelled sour. He traced it to a dead drain pump, cleaned everything out, and explained how to flush it a couple of times a year.
Georgia W.Berkeley
After a summer outage the wine cabinet came back reading forty on both zones and ignored every button. The control had lost its memory rather than failed. He reloaded it, corrected the set points, and stayed to watch a full cycle.

Why this shop
Narrow on purpose
Four things that make a difference to how a Sub-Zero call in Denver actually goes, and all four are visible on the day.
A condenser matted like this is the commonest reason a cabinet in this city runs all day and still drifts warm. It is a clean, not a compressor.
-
Refrigeration, and nothing else
Built-in and integrated Sub-Zero refrigerators, freezer columns, ice makers and wine storage. No laundry, no ovens, no furnaces — one type of equipment, seen every day.
-
The panel comes off before a price is named
A temperature reading and a story are not a diagnosis. Grille off, fans and heaters tested, gauges on the circuit if the numbers point there — then one figure, then your decision.
-
The faults this city actually causes
Hard water scaling an ice mould, cottonwood fluff matting a condenser in June, wildfire ash after an August week, and air dry enough to shrink a door seal. Local wear, not a generic checklist.
-
Your cabinetry survives the visit
Panel-ready columns come forward on their rails, go back flush, and the floor is covered before the toe panel is off. Blankets, not a dolly on the hardwood.
Where we work
Four Denver neighbourhoods, one route
These are the areas covered on a normal day. Anywhere else in Denver, ask on the phone — the answer is usually yes, and always honest.
- LoDo 80202 Converted brick warehouses and loft kitchens where the built-in is wedged into a tight galley.
- Central Park 80238 Newer open-plan houses with butler pantries and paired refrigerator and freezer columns.
- Congress Park 80206 Nineteen-twenties bungalows and Denver Squares, remodelled kitchens with very little clearance.
- Berkeley 80212 Tennyson Street bungalows and new half-duplexes, most with integrated refrigeration and wine storage.
How a call runs
Three steps, and you approve the middle one
Nothing is ordered, fitted or charged for beyond the service call until you have heard the fault and the figure.
-
01
Tell us what the cabinet is doing
Temperatures on both sections, any noise, and the model number from the frame inside the fresh-food door. That is enough to bring the likely part on the van instead of finding it on a second trip.
-
02
Panel off, readings taken
The toe grille and rear panels come off, the condenser and fans are inspected, defrost and sensor circuits are read with a meter, and gauges go on the sealed system when the symptom points there. You get the fault and one figure for fixing it.
-
03
Fitted, then proved
The part goes in, the drain is flushed, and the unit is watched through a full pull-down and a defrost cycle before anyone leaves. You see the temperatures come back on the meter, not on a promise.
