The line, the valve and the pressure

Who repairs an ice maker water line in Denver?

An ice maker water line has two owners. From the compression fitting at the back of the cabinet inwards — valve, fill tube, mould, drain — it is appliance work, and Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts handles that. From the fitting back towards the house — the shut-off, the run through the floor or wall, the pressure behind it — it is a plumber's.

Pattern

What we usually find

  1. The compression fitting where the house line meets the cabinet. It weeps rather than sprays, so the first sign is usually a stain on the floor behind the kickplate.
  2. The shut-off valve itself, especially an old self-piercing one that has been closed and opened again after years of sitting untouched.
  3. The inlet valve on the unit, which leaks internally and shows as ice under the bin long before it shows as a puddle.
  4. A line crushed against the wall when the cabinet was pushed home after a clean or a new floor.

Most often first. Order comes from what the visits keep turning up, not from a count.

Where the appliance stops and the house begins

Sub-Zero is blunt about the boundary: the company states there is “no internal water supply shut-off valve” on the unit, and the valve that controls the line is put in by a plumber when the supply is first run. The tap you need in a hurry was never part of the refrigerator.

If there is water on the floor now

Close that valve before anything else, then switch the ice maker off as well. Left on with no water reaching it, the machine keeps calling for a fill it cannot get, and Sub-Zero lists exactly that combination as a way to freeze the fill tube solid.

Before you call

Two minutes, before anyone comes out

  1. Close the shut-off on the ice maker line first, then dry the floor and watch it.
  2. Look behind the kickplate for a wet fitting before pulling the cabinet out.
  3. Leave a paper towel under the fitting overnight; a slow weep will mark it.

That is as far as an owner should take it. If what you find does not match this page, call Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts on (720) 903-2603 and the water path gets measured end to end.
