Water where it should not be

Why is there a sheet of ice on the freezer floor?

A sheet of ice under the bin is water that reached the freezer floor instead of the mould. Something upstream let the fill run past the point where it should have stopped, or sent it down the outside of the fill tube. Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts clears the sheet, then looks for the reason it formed, because otherwise the sheet comes back.

Pattern

What we usually find

  1. A jammed cube holding the ejector back, so the next fill arrives on top of a mould that never emptied and runs over the lip.
  2. A fill tube frozen part of the way down. Sub-Zero traces that to pressure fluctuation in the supply, to a bin taken out while the ice maker was left on, and to jammed cubes.
  3. A water valve that no longer closes cleanly. It weeps between cycles, and every drop it lets past lands in the compartment rather than in the mould.
  4. A fill setting that is wrong for the unit, which Sub-Zero lists beside low supply pressure as a reason water overflows in the ice maker area.

Most often first. Order comes from what the visits keep turning up, not from a count.

Why clearing the ice is not the repair

Chipping a sheet out buys a fortnight and tells you nothing. The water had a route to the floor before it froze, and that route is still open once the ice has gone. Freezing hides it, too: a valve weeping a drop a minute is invisible where everything it does turns solid within the hour.

So the order matters. Melt the sheet with the freezer off rather than a tool, get the bin out, and note whether water still arrives at a mould that cannot take it. That is worth more on the phone than the size of the sheet.

Before you call

Two minutes, before anyone comes out

  1. Lift the bin out and look for a cube wedged where the ejector sweeps across.
  2. Close the shut-off feeding the line, then switch the ice maker itself off.
  3. Leave the freezer off four to six hours so the ice melts instead of being chipped.

Stop there. If that has not settled it by the next morning, call Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts on (720) 903-2603 and the rest of the water path gets traced with a meter.
