Water where it should not be

Why is the ice maker overfilling?

Overfilling means the valve stayed open longer than the mould could take. Sub-Zero names an incorrect fill setting and a valve not operating properly among the causes, and adds low supply pressure, which reads backwards until you watch a starved fill limp on past its stopping point. Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts measures what actually arrives before anyone reaches for the module.

Pattern

What we usually find

  1. A fill setting that no longer suits the unit. Sub-Zero puts it plainly: the water fill setting is incorrect or needs adjustment.
  2. A water valve not operating properly, second on Sub-Zero's own list, and the item that turns a long fill into standing water behind the bin.
  3. Low pressure to the unit. Sub-Zero ties it to a valve that will not work, to a line or fill tube freezing, and to water overflowing.
  4. A cube jammed at the mould, so a fill of exactly the right length has nowhere left to go and spills over the edge.

Most often first. Order comes from what the visits keep turning up, not from a count.

Why this one should not be left running

An overfill is not a cosmetic fault that can wait for a convenient week. Water that leaves the mould every cycle freezes where it settles, and each layer makes the next cycle worse: the bin binds on its rails, the ejector meets resistance it was never designed for, and the drip finds its way down towards the drawers below.

There is also the simple arithmetic of it. A fault that adds ice at every call for water is adding it around the clock, so the difference between calling today and calling in a fortnight is measured in how much has to be melted out first.

Before you call

Two minutes, before anyone comes out

  1. Take the bin out and watch. If the water stops flowing, say so when you call.
  2. Turn the water supply to the unit off once you have seen where it goes.
  3. Switch the ice maker off rather than letting another cycle fill a full mould.

Stop there. If that has not settled it by the next morning, call Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts on (720) 903-2603 and the rest of the water path gets traced with a meter.
