No ice at all
How long until a new Sub-Zero makes its first ice?
Sub-Zero asks for twenty-four hours of ice production once the unit and the ice maker have both been switched on, and the earliest cubes go in the sink rather than in a glass. Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts treats a bin that is still bone dry the morning after that as something to trace, not as a machine that wants longer.
Pattern
What we usually find
- The cabinet powered up and the ice maker never switched on behind it. They are two separate actions, and only one of them is obvious.
- The new supply left closed at the house valve, so the compartment goes cold on schedule while the line behind it stays empty.
- Air carried in when the line was opened, which shortens the first fills and makes the first cubes ragged until it works its way through.
- A fill point iced over during the initial cool-down, because water stood in it before anything was ready to call for a cycle.
Most often first. Order comes from what the visits keep turning up, not from a count.
Why the first batch is thrown away
After a cartridge change Sub-Zero says to discard the first full bucket of ice, and a freshly opened line deserves the same treatment: those cubes carry air and whatever was standing in the plumbing. Clarity and taste settle afterwards.
What day one should look like
Thin or sparse cubes at hour six are ordinary. Nothing whatever at hour twenty-four is not. A compartment still on its way down will not release a harvest, so an empty bin can sit under a machine that is behaving perfectly.
Before you call
Two minutes, before anyone comes out
- Confirm the ice maker is on at the control, not simply that the cabinet has power.
- Check the new shut-off is fully open and the compression fitting behind the unit is dry.
- Write down the hour it was switched on, then look again a whole day later.
