No ice at all
Why is there no ice since the power went out?
Power returns before cold does. Water only goes down the fill tube once the freezer has reached its set temperature and the ice maker calls for it, so an outage leaves the bin hours behind the rest of the kitchen. Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts judges it by the following morning rather than by the first empty hour.
Pattern
What we usually find
- A compartment still climbing back down to temperature, which keeps the harvest off until the mould is cold enough to let a cube go.
- A cycle caught part-way through harvest when the supply dropped, leaving a cube half ejected and the mechanism stalled against it.
- A fill point frozen shut while the power was off, because water stood in it with nothing calling for the next cycle.
- A control switched off by whoever went round the kitchen resetting clocks once the lights came back on.
Most often first. Order comes from what the visits keep turning up, not from a count.
Why repeated outages punish the fill point
Standing water and an interrupted supply are both on Sub-Zero’s list of reasons a fill tube ices shut, and an outage delivers the pair together. The remedy an owner can safely apply is a manual defrost of four to six hours with the unit switched off — nothing warmer, nothing sharper.
What restoring power does not do
Nothing about the lights coming back reseats a bin, frees a jam or revives a tired valve. If the compartment is cold again and a whole day has passed dry, the outage has stopped being the explanation.
Before you call
Two minutes, before anyone comes out
- Check the ice maker is switched on again, since other things in the kitchen were.
- Look for a cube stranded half out of the mould and lift it away by hand.
- Let the freezer hold temperature for a day before calling the ice maker faulty.
Stop there. If that has not settled it by the next morning, call Denver Sub-Zero Repair Experts on (720) 903-2603 and the rest of the water path gets traced with a meter.
